About the Library
The Lake Ridge Elementary Library is located at the heart of the school. Our library offers a great selection of literature and reference materials. We have an open checkout policy, meaning students may come to the library anytime during the school day. The library is also part of the 'specials' rotation, where students come and learn on a rotational basis.

Library Progams
Information Management Process
During library specials, students are taught the information management process. The information management process teaches students how to conduct proper research. The library has a wide selection of information materials available to teachers and students.

For K-1, students learn basic library skills and the difference between fiction and nonfiction. For grades 2-3, students learn about how to use dictionaries, thesauruses, and begin learning how to use reference materials. For grades 4-5, students learn and review their reference skills.

LRES Book Chats
Read a book recently? Do you like talking about books? Want a chance to be on the morning announcements? Then LRES Book Chats are for you!

Book Chats are a great way to write a short review on a book you have read. Fill out the green slip of paper, found at the library, and rate the book. Only turn in completed reviews and use appropriate language.

Miss Alarico will review all turned in Book Chats at the beginning of each month. Remember, the book must be from the LRES Library.

Happy
Reading!

Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader or AR is a reading program to encourage students to read and assess their comprehension of what was read.

AR books are easily recognized by the color dot on a book's spine. On the inside of the book is a label that tells the student what the reading level is and how many points they can achieve by passing the quiz. Students are encouraged to read the book thoroughly before taking a quiz. Students can take a quiz in their classroom or in the library.

Students, who have achieved incentive points, will be recognized and rewarded at the end of the school year.
