Specialty Programs
Our county offers a myriad of programs for students to join. These programs include Foreign Language, Math and Science, and Elementary International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme as well as Traditional School Programs. December 1 - 5: Talked with each grade 5 classroom to explain the application process. Students were informed about three choices for programs. Foreign Language: Lake Ridge Middle; Math/Science: Rippon Middle; and IB: Beville Middle and were given information about Porter Traditional School. Students were given the opportunity to request a Specialty Program brochure and encouraged to attend Program Information meetings for additional information and applications.
January 12: Parent workshop to inform parents about application process.
January 16: All interested students will complete the essay portion of the application at school with Miss Johnson. A schedule has been coordinated with the fifth grade teachers to allow students to write their essays this morning at 9:30 a.m. Please contact Miss Johnson if your child is not able to write the essay at this time. Keep in mind your child may have to be pulled during their specials, lunch, and/or recess time to fulfill this requirement so they don’t miss instructional time in the classroom.
January 29: All applications due to Miss Johnson.
February 2 - 6: Miss Johnson reviews each application to make sure it’s complete and attaches the grade report for each application submitted.
February 9 or 10: Applications delivered to the respective middle schools.
