Reading Recovery Program
Mrs. Pasternak,
Reading Recovery is an international, early-intervention program that has been in Prince William County Schools since 1996. It came from the work of developmental psychologist Marie Clay. Lake Ridge Elementary provides the opportunity for four first grade students to particpate in the Reading Recovery program each semester.

What does Reading Recovery do?
Reading Recovery is a short-term intervention that supports the lowest-acheiving children in the first grade. Each day children meet individually with a specially trained teacher for a 30 minute session. The program lasts an average of 15 to 20 weeks. The goal is to meet the specific needs of each child and move him or her to the level of their average performing peers. Each Reading Recovery lesson is designed to help the child achieve that goal. Reseach compiled by the Reading Recovery National Data Evaluation Center shows that the Prince William County Reading Recovery program consistently has a success rate above 85% for those students who receive a complete series of lessons.
